Southern California Teamsters Retiree's Association (SCTRA)

The SCTRA was chartered by the I.B.T. as a retiree affiliate in 1984 with the mission to keep retirees, spouses and family informed and included in our union, but more importantly to maintain unity to protect our interests as working people. Our SCTRA is set up to advance the welfare of our retirees by maintaining an information & referral center for all retirees and offer group support. We produce a quarterly newsletter (The Teamster Retiree), organize casino turnarounds, education/information seminars, annual luncheons with prizes, and invitations to participate in local union actions as volunteers. We are over 700 members strong, with retiree chapters in the area open to all retirees & spouses, with a simple annual dues/donation of $25.00 (including spouses), and an Executive Board of 7 retirees that volunteer to oversee business,. office and financial matters. The SCTRA is a 501c4 non-profit association, recognized by the federal IRS with annual report/financial filings, which do not provide tax exempt status from dues/donations, but allows for business expenses, charity donations and gifts to members.

As a retiree of the Teamsters union you know the value of unity and membership. Through union solidarity the fruits of good wages, benefits and a Teamster pension were made possible. Now, in retirement, there is still an important need to stay united in the Teamster retiree association, which is supported and sponsored by Joint Council 42 and the I.B.T. 

Our union is under constant attack by those that would undermine social security, Teamster pensions, Medicare, union rights & organizing, and fair political representation. The union is fighting those attack for you, and your official retiree association is fighting too.

Although you cannot be an active dues paying or voting member of the Teamsters union after retirement (as provided in the Teamster Constitution), you can and should join the So. Calif. Teamster Retirees Association (SCTRA). The SCTRA annual dues are nominal, includes your spouse and creates a fellowship with real strength to protect retirees and a quality of life.
